Garden Tips To Help Prepare Your Garden For Winter

Winter Garden Tips-Is Your Garden Ready For Winter?

These Winter Garden Tips are designed to help you with the preparation of your garden for Winter.

Garden Tips: Start with Vegetable Beds -

First – Clear your vegetable beds of all the dead or dying vegetables and vegetation.  This is especially important if you have had problems with garden pests over your most recent growing season.

Once you have cleared your garden vegetable beds as best you can, you may allow what is left over to be removed or taken care of by your garden predators and mother nature (wind, rain, frost).

Garden Tips:  Take Care of Nasty Weeds Next -

Once you have your garden vegetable beds cleaned and before winter sets in – Remove and dispose of the weeds.

Garden Tips: To Compost or Not to Compost weeds -

You truly do not want to compost your garden weeds.  Weeds are like, . . . well, like Weeds – Their seeds will probably live through the harsh winter months and be a pain in the rear for you when you want and need your compost for the following garden growing season.

Garden Tips:  Clean And Store Garden Tools and Garden Pots -

While it may feel like an extra nuisance to take your garden tools and pots out and empty them out and clean them up, you will be glad you did when garden growing season comes around again!

Clean all garden tools and clay pots.  Empty any garden pot that has anything in it.  Wash all pots out, and if they are clay pots then take the extra step to dry them out too.

Empty or drain all garden hoses and outdoor watering cans.  Store hoses and watering cans in a protected shed or garage with garden tools and dry, clean garden pots.

Sharpen any garden tools that became dull over the growing season so you aren’t held back when the growing season starts again.

Garden Tips: Garlic!

During the time that your soil is still workable, plant your garlic.  The best time to deal with this garden garlic step is in October.  That is because it is the end of the garden season and you still have good enough soil to plant the garlic in.  The bonus is that you will generate a significantly larger garlic crop in your following year.

These garden tips will help you preserve your harvest for the following garden growing season.  Garden Tips to make your garden last!
